BlackBerry, a Canadian manufacturer of mobile devices, cannot decide on its future plans. It seems like the company still cannot come out of a prolonged crisis. Not so long ago, some unofficial sources reported about BlackBerry's plans to introduce to low-cost smartphones. However, the company hs just disproved the news, saying it is not going to manufacture new devices in the near future.
It seems like the top management of BlackBerry is aware that today's market of mobile devices is oversupplied, this holds especially true for the low-cost niche. Therefore, the company doesn't want to waste time and money on manufacturing more low-cost devices in order to meet severe rivalry in the sector.
Apart from that the mobile market will grow much faster in 2014. Therefore, mediocre manufacturers and outsiders will have to face more problems and tougher competition, especially in the low-cost niche.
BlackBerry is reported to suspend the production of 2 devices- Cafe and Kopi. These low-cost devices were targeted for emerging markets. Indeed, many tech companies are focused on emerging markets (especially India and China) these days.
Last week, BalckBerry published a quarterly report for Q3 2013. This was a disaster! The company lost over $4.4bn during the reporting period!
The company's stock is still in downtrend, even though it is currently recovering after a deep decline. The chart below, courtesy of Masterforex-V Academy, reflects the current state of affairs in the market of BBRY:
