For the first time in history, the northernmost point of our planet was conquered by a man on a bicycle, who is famous Russian adventurer Bogdan Bulytchev. For those of you who don’t know, he is a member of the Russian Geographical Society and the State Polar Academy.
He was in charge of Alpari’s bicycle expedition to the North Pole. The North Pole was first reached more than 100 years ago. Since then, many people from all around the world have done the same. The did it on foot, by plane, using skis, snowmobiles, submarines and many other vehicles. But no one has ever done it by bicycle… at least up until recently.
A couple of days ago, the adventurer set a new world record by becoming the first man on the planet to reach the North Pole by bicycle.
On April 17th, Alpari’s bicycle expedition to the North Pole has now come to a successful conclusion, Alpari reports. Despite the extreme weather conditions that adventurer Bogdan Bulychev had to face, he eventually made it to the North Pole and planted the Alpari flag at the northernmost point of the globe. Frankly speaking, by doing so he set 2 new world records at a time. These are: “First person to reach the North Pole by bicycle” and “Fastest round-the-world cycling trip in the Northern Hemisphere”. Guinness World Records has already received the corresponding applications for official recognition.
They chose a fat-bike by Scott to accomplish this expedition since a simple bicycle would have never be able to do it. This is a bike with a lightweight frame and very wide low-pressure tires (up to 5 inches), which enables the bike to run smoothly on such surfaces as beach sand, snow, and other soft surfaces.

According to Andrey Dashin, who is the owner of the international financial Alpari brand, the actual trip to the North Pole by bicycle sponsored by Alpari has actually widened Alpari’s horizons. It was a risky thing to do but it ended up being a huge success.
During the process of conquering the North Pole by bicycle, the team had to face and overcome extremely difficult circumstances. In particular, because of really strong currents in the area, many parts of the Arctic ice cap were next to impossible to pass. The thing is that those currents created massive cracks in the ice. Moreover, in some places the ice even broke up completely to reveal the water below. Nevertheless, Bogdan managed to continue his expedition by bike after being airlifted to a safer place. This is what Bogdan said while being interviewed after getting back from the trip:
I consider myself quite a serious traveller, but I lit up like a child when I reached the North Pole. When you’re standing at the top of the world, it’s impossible not to get emotional. I’d like to thank everyone who took part in this expedition. It nearly failed because of the extreme weather conditions, but we did everything we could to reach our goal.

The expedition started on April 14th from the Borneo arctic station, which is rebuilt every year. The adventurers thought they would pass 220km in 22 days.

After being airlifted to a safer ice area, Bogdan continued his trip. It took him 3 days to actually reach the North Pole by bike and set the 2 mentioned world records.

It was a major achievement for the adventurer and Alpari sponsoring this trip. They jokingly said that Bogdan had opened a temporary Alpari office at the North Pole to study the polar bear’s demand for high-quality forex brokerage services.
