According to several Western media sources, United States Secretary of States Rex Tillerson had a phone talk with Ukrainian President Poroshenko yesterday, right in advance of his visit to Moscow.
During the talk, Rex Tillerson reassured Petr Poroshenko that the USA was not going to make any deal with Russia over Ukraine. At the same time, he reiterated the fact that Donald Trump’s administration advocates the integrity of Ukraine and doesn’t recognize Russia’s annexation of the Crimea. The USA also urges the Russian Federation to stick to the Minsk Agreement and start deescalating the situation in Donbass.
President Poroshenko thanked Rex Tillerson and Trump’s administration for supporting the people of Ukraine in their fight against Russia’s aggression. For now, we know that Rex Tillerson has already arrived in Moscow from Italy after participating in the G7 summit. His meeting with Vladimir Putin is still questioned though. Previously, meeting with the US Secretary of State was on President Putin’s agenda. However, after the US missile attack of a Syrian airbase, this event was removed from the agenda.
