Not so long ago, Poland found itself in the middle of another political scandal. The thing is that the Polish Minister of Defense accused President of the European Council Donald Tusk in a diplomatic betrayal. For those of you who don’t know, Donald Tusk used to be the Prime Minister of Poland.
To be more specific, Donald Tusk was allegedly cooperating with Vladimir Putin when he was the Prime Minister of Poland. They Defense Minister claims that the aim of this cooperation was to undermine Poland’s national interests after the Polish President’s airplane crashed in Russia in 2010. Apart from the President, there were 95 people on board, including a lot of high-ranking Polish politicians. Unfortunately, nobody survived the crash.
It's interesting to note that the brother of the late President has been one of the strongest political opponents for Donald Tusk. He supports the accusation since he thinks that it’s Donald Tusk who is to be blamed for the tragedy that happened back in 2010. They have already filed a claim in the local Office of Public Prosecutor, which has 30 days to consider whether it’s necessary to start an official investigation.
Apparently, Donald Tusk denies any involvement and calls those accusations ungrounded and emotional. By the way, during the recent EU summit, he as re-elected President of the European Council. He was supported by 28 votes. The Polish representative happened to be the only one voting against him. As a result, the Polish representatives found themselves in some kind of isolation. Despite the fact that Poland voted against his re-election, Donald Tusk promised to cooperate with the Polish government to help Poland come out of the EU isolation they had found themselves in.
