Donald Trump met with Angela Merkel. There are reported to have spent a lot of time discussing the situation in Ukraine.
Having talked to Angela Merkel, Donald Trump agreed with the idea of peaceful resolution of the Donbass conflict. However, he also gave everyone to understand that some other scenarios are possible as well. He said that ideally they are looking for the ways and means to resolve the conflict in a peaceful way.
Angela Merkel came to Washington to discuss the most urgent questions with Donald Trump. This is their first meeting since Donald trump was elected President of the United States. As we have just mentioned, the current situation in Ukraine in general and the armed conflict in Donbass in particular became the key topics on the agenda.
It’s interesting to note that EU leaders, including Angela Merkel, assume that there is no substitute for peaceful resolution of the Donbass conflict, and this is why they want Trump’s administration to share this standpoint.
All in all, Angela Merkel seems to be content with the results of the meeting and the way the White House approaches the situation and the ways of resolving it. It’s especially interesting to pay attention to Angela Merkel’s standpoint, which says that it’s necessary to find a peaceful way to resolve the Donbass conflict and to improve the relations with Russia at the same time.
She says that the Minks Agreement can serve as a solid base for resolving the conflict. However, she regrets seeing no progress so far as the sides of the conflict seems to have been failing to stick to the agreement.
We also remind you that Kiev officially announced the blockade of Donbass a couple of weeks ago, and banned any cargo shipment behind the enemy line.
