After the meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Rex Tillerson, the United States Secretary of State, commented on the results of the meetings by saying that the USA expects Russia to fulfil the obligations made when signing the Minsk Protocol aimed at stopping the way in Donbass, Ukraine.
At the same time, the Secretary underlined that the USA is going to defend their interests as well as the interests of their allies unless there is a conflict of interests and views. At the same time, Washington seems to be still seeking to find common interests with Russia while urging Moscow to stick to the Minsk Protocol. Washington also hopes that Moscow is going to work on deescalating the conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine.
When speaking about the meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Rex Tillerson called it a productive meeting, where a number of topics urgent to both sides were discussed. Mr. Tillerson also reminded us that during the hearings in the Senate when his candidacy was considered, he underlined that he was determined to find common spots with Russia wherever it’s possible to let the USA benefit from this cooperation.
