The current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May gave her first big interview after coming into power a few months ago. During the interview, she warned the people of the United Kingdom about the likelihood of a difficult period they would have to face in the near future. She is almost convinced that the so-called Brexit, or the process of quitting the European Union is going to be economically and financially painful to the UK, its people, economy, national currency, and financial system.
During her speech, she touched upon the Brexit topic to let the people know that they should get ready for uneasy times in the near future as the United Kingdom leaves the EU for good. Still, she believes that longer-term prospects are much brighter for the UK. To be more specific, she says that the country can really benefit from quitting the European Union over the long term since new opportunities are going to emerge for Great Britain as a non-EU member.
Theresa May wants a strong and independent Britain choosing its own economic and political way. The prime Minister also says that the Brexit talks between the representatives of the United Kingdom and the European Union won’t start this year and are planned for 2017. Still, the sides are definitely not planning to delay this process and want to be done with it as soon as possible to make the process less painful for the UK and the EU.
For those of you who don’t know, we remind you that on June 23rd, 2016, the United Kingdom held the so-called Brexit referendum, which resulted in the decision to quite the European Union in the near future. Still, this event split the British society and political circles. Shortly after the results of the Brexit referendum were announced, David Cameron resigned his post of the British Prime Minister. This is when Theresa May became his successor. Unlike Mr. Cameron, she welcomes the Brexit and sees it as a step forward for the UK.
At the same time, the Scottish government announced their decision to hold their own referendum to quit the UK to stay a part of the EU. As you can see, the Brexit decision wasn’t unanimous. Even in England people disagree with the decision and want the UK back in the EU.
