Apple may refuse from traditional update of iPhone once in 2 years and increase this term. From now on a new model of iPhone will appear only once in 3 years. In between the release of new models the company will improve the previous version.
Such decision is probably connected with the fact that the company needs some time for making considerable improvements. Besides, experts agree that market slowdown may also plays its role here.
Several latest presentations of the company truly show that the manufacturer suffers from a lack of initiatives and deals more with small updates of already existing devices. For example, lovers of the device have given a rather cold welcome to release of iPad Pro and iPhone SE – the company is still blamed for releasing old devices under the pretence of new “hardware”. What is more, the company’s quarterly report proves market slowdown. Thus, according to the report for the 2nd financial quarter, sale of iPhone is falling rapidly, which is proved by fundamental drop of results in the United States and China.
For the first time in thirteen years the manufacturer has report on reduction in yield. For the 2nd financial quarter it has dropped by 13 percent, to 50.6 billion dollars, and net profit – by 22 percent, to 10.50 billion dollars. The company’s profit for the same quarter last year amounted to 58 billion dollars, and quarterly net profit – 13.6 billion dollars.
Apple currently adheres to a 2-year cycle of iPhone update. During the first year a number model with new design appears, and during the second one – model with s character, in other words, an improved version of the previous model.
A new number is given only to devices that have gained new design. However, as a rule, they have fewer updates than s-models. This is how Touch ID, Siri, and 3D Touch have appeared. More topical iPhone 6 and 6s can be taken as a comparison. When iPhone 6 was released, its main difference from the previous version of smartphone was design and, naturally, improved productivity. However, this growth of productivity was extremely small in comparison to that of 6s. In particular, in single-core test of GeekBench iPhone 5s gains about 1400 points, iPhone 6 - 1600 points, and 6s - 2500 points. Besides these 2 elements – characteristics and design, iPhone 6 was almost the same as 5s. iPhone 6s, in its turn, has much more innovations in comparison to 6: Touch ID 2.0, a new camera, and 3D Touch. And these are only main improvements: besides them, for example, there is a new camera that can record video in 4К, slow-motion in 1080р/120 fps, and Live Photos.
Regardless of general number of improvements, everyone is first of all waiting for a new design, whereas the “filling” takes a back seat. In this connection it is evident that if the company reissues iPhone 6 (as it was with iPhone 5), it will receive heavy criticism from ordinary buyers and from investors.
Everyone Waits for a “Truly” New Model
Despite the fact that new model of iPhone is only going to appear, rumors mostly prove that the device will greatly disappoint the fans and will not be very different from its forerunners. Many “spills” claim that size, button arrangement, and appearance will not change, except for plastic separators will be shifted closer to edges, thus becoming less noticeable.
Another popular rumour about the new model (iPhone 7) is connected with a number of devices. The gadget is supposed to have 3 versions: 2 standard ones with 5.5- or 4.7-incher diagonal and no considerable difference from 6s in terms of functionality, as well as so-called Pro version.
This version is believed to get a double camera, which many people have been speaking about since iPhone 6s was released. A double camera may be used in various aspects, so it is interesting to see how the system is implemented in iPhones. For example, HTC One M8 gives an opportunity to change focal distance of ready pictures, LG G5 ca n makewide-screen pictures, and Huawei P9 simply allows taking high-quality pictures due to the second monochrome module. In addition, Pro version is expected to have a Smart Connector to connect to periphery, as in iPad Pro, and an OLED display.
However, much time remains till the presentation, so most rumours are based on fake pictures and speculation.
According to the source of Japanese newspapers Nikkei, the next model will get minor changes in comparison to the previous one, and “real” iPhone 7 will appear only in 2017.
