As we can see by now, the new versions of iPhones - iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are not the most durable smartphones out there. This is confirmed by multiple crush tests uploaded to youtube.com.
With that said, Apple’s new devices are afraid of falling. In 99 out of 100 cases, it is the glass of the screen that suffers most of all, Market Leader reports. Still, Apple decided to secure its mobile devices against physical damage after falling down and contacting a hard surface. For that reason, Apple has recently registered a patent, which describes a system allowing a device to switch its center of gravity. The system is expected to secure Apple gadgets against physical damages.
The thing is that the system is capable of performing complicated calculations to find out whether the device is actually falling down and if this is the case, it shift the center of gravity so as to make the device contact a hard surface at the point where it is more durable. As the result of this complicated process, such a devices never falls screen down. So, the glass of the screen remains safe.
The system is based on a number of built-in sensors measuring the device’s location in the environment. If the device is falling down, the CPU shifts the balance of the device to prevent it from falling the way when sensitive parts contact the surface directly. By the way, this wonderful mechanism was invented in 2011 by Nicolas King and Fletcher Rotkopf.
