
The consequences of the deal between Nokia and Microsoft (Microsoft purchased Nokia's mobil business) seem to be scaring such tech giants as Google and Samsung. Market Leader found out what exactly Google and Samsung are afraid of. It seems like the 2 heavyweights in the international mobile industry are getting increasingly worried that the recent purchase of Nokia's mobile business by Microsoft may eventually lead to higher license payments for using the company's patents (which now belong to Microsoft).
In particular, some sources report that Google and Samsung have already addressed the Chinese Department of Commerce to prevent the possibility of raising license fees (which may take place as soon as the deal between Nokia and Microsoft is finally completed.
Microsoft Takes Over Devices & Services
It should be remined that Microsoft is currently getting ready to complete the process of taking over Devices & Services, Nokia's division responsible for development and sales o Nokia devices. The deal is estimated at €5,44bn including €1,65 for purchasing Nokia's mobile patents.
At this point, the antitrust authorities of the USA, Russia, India, Turkey, and Israel have approved the deal and now we are waiting for the decision from the antitrust authorities in China, which initiated an extra investigation on local manufacturers' demand (including ZTE, Huawei and Lenovo).
