After Apple introduced its new A7 system, which includes a 64-bit CPU conventionally called Cyclone, most manufacturers of ARM processors had to reconsider their plans and to switch to 64-bit processors form mobile devices.
Qualcomm, one of the frontrunners in the industry, was quick to adapt to the changing environment and managed to introduce new version of tis processors during MWC 2014. In particular, the company introduced Snapdragon 801 (an updated version of Snapdragon 800) and new 64-bit chips called Snapdragon 610 and 615.
It should be noted that Snapdragon 801 is the very chip that powers Sony Experia Z2. It should be noted that Snapdragon 800 and 801 are fully compatible. This means that any devices that used the older version under development, will work perfectly well while powered by the newer processor, which is Snapdragon 801.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm’s stock is consolidating after the recent sharp rally started in late January – early February. At this point, the price is around $74,91 per share. The chart below, courtesy of Masterforex-V Academy, reflects the current state of affairs in the market of QCOM:
