ASUS, a Taiwanese manufacturer of computer electronics, introduces its own version of Chromebox. It has just announced the prices. Market Leader reports that the hardware specifications of the new computers include Celeron 2955U, Core i3-4010U or Core i7-4600U, with 2 slots of DDR3-1600 (SO-DIMM) 4Gb total and SSD 16Gb.
Indeed, the external memory is small by it is compensated by 100Gb of space on the cloud system called Google Drive (free access for 2 years, then 5 dollars a month).
Apart from that, ASUS Chromebox is equipped by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth , Gigabit Ethernet, 4 USB3.0 ports and a card reader. Physically, the devices is 124 by 124 by 42 mm. Thanks to Haswell processors by Intel, such devices do not need to have powerful cooling system anymore.
The standard version of ASUS Chromebox will cost $179. The sales will start in March 2014. Moreover, the Taiwanese tech giant promised to expand the line of accessories for the device.
Meanwhile, ASUS is going to focus on the production of smartphones. In particular, the company is going to boost the sales from 1 million to 5 million devices this year.
