Facebook has organized Open Compute Project to develop new methods of data management and storage. It has recently gained new participants. Open Compute Project has been joined by Microsoft and IBM. Some time before the list of its participants has been enriched by AMD, Seagate Technology, and about 150 companies. Perspectives of the project have been studied by “Internet” Department of the “Market Leader”.
Facebook Initiated and Got Money’s Worth
The project is highly perspective and interesting for a number of companies, connected with Internet activity. In the nearest future it will be joined by a Russian company “Yandex” and a provider of cloud data storage Box.net.
First of all, Open Compute Project is interesting from economic point of view. According to the head of Facebook Mark Zukerberg, owing to refusal from ordinary server decisions and release of own hardware platforms, the company has earned about 1.2 bln. dollars. Energy expenses of information processing centers have also reduced. Facebook company has its own hardware platforms in North Carolina and Oregon.
New Adaptor Released for Open Compute Project
It has been recently reported that a special adaptor will be released for servers of Open Compute Project (OCP), namely, QOE2562 – the first adaptor of Fibre Channel. It is made in the form of mezzanine expansion card. Adaptors QLogic Fibre Channel OCP will enter configuration of Quanta STRATOS S215-X1M2Z servers. They will enter the market in April 2014.
The main goal of Open Compute Project is to develop specification of most effective large-scale corporate servers and servers for BC Web 2.0. They are supposed to become efficient in terms of money and energy. The project is open, which attracts new companies to cooperation. Facebook company has become the initiator of creating OCP.
Stocks of the company have recently risen by 2.97 percent, up to 55.14 US dollars, as informed by the Analytics Team of Forex Trend. This project will stimulate stocks’ growth at the exchange.
