At this point, Google and its Android OS have been the leaders among mobile operating systems. We know for sure, that most mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) are powered by Android. Apple and iOS are the runners-up. iPhones and iPads are still holding the 2nd place in the race of mobile devices. Windows Phone comes next. It is number in the race.
However, several experts representing Forbes assume that the situation may change drastically over the next 3 years. In particular, they say, Windows Phone may consolidate its position worldwide and outpace Apple's iOS-powered iPhones and iPads.
The predictions are mainly based on the increasingly high pace at which Windows Phone is conquering the world. Over the last 12 months, the sales of Windows Phone-powered devices have boosted by as mush as 156%! The same figures for Android and iOS are 51% and 25,6% respectively.
Microsoft is sure that it is emerging markets that are worth betting on! Windows Phone is gradually taking much more significant place in these markets. Apple product sales in those regions are declining since the devices are relatively expensive while more people cannot afford expensive devices due to difficult financial and economic situation.
In the near future, Microsoft is planning to develop a common OS for all the mobile devices, including tablets, smartphones and other gadgets. This will allow developers to create cross-platform apps much easier.
Meanwhile, Microsoft's stock is appreciating on positive news. By the way, the company has recently been showing strong financial performance. The chart below, courtesy of Masterforex-V Academy, reflects the current state of affairs in the market of MFST:
