Information security specialists from Security Research Labs company (Germany) have revealed new weak point in smartphones iPhone; by using it hackers get the opportunity to get over the security system that is activated in case of theft or loss of the device. This has been informed by “US News” Department of the “Market Leader”.
According to experts, such “rift” in security system gives intruders enough time to crack the device and get full access to the user’s data, records in e-mail, and, maybe, even to bank accounts. Moreover, specialists have found an easier way to deceive a new biometric blocking system Touch ID in new smartphones iPhone 5S than the one that has been shown by the first hacker, which has broken the fingerprint scanner.
Security Research Labs company has mounted on the Web a video, which shows another gap. Researchers who have earlier found the critical weak point in SIM-card operation claim that they have already given all information to Apple corporation. The latter has not yet given any comments on the issue. If conclusions of SRL are proved, the latest weak point will become at least the fifth “gap” in iPhone security found since July.
Apple has already fixed some of these mistakes, but the company keeps ignoring the fear that has appeared when the group of German hackers has announced about the crack of fingerprint scanner in recently released iPhone 5S. The specialists have then decided to get closer to “Find My iPhone” function. With its help the owner of a lost or stolen smartphone may hinder thieves and hackers to use the device. By entering a cloud databank iCloud the user may delete all data on his device before intruders get access to it.
Ben Schlabs, project manager in biometric security of SRL, explained how he managed to get over protection. As stated by him, he has switched the new iPhone 5S into the “flight regime”, using which switches off access to iCloud; after this he has received enough time to make the fake fingerprint. The hacker has made a picture of the pattern, printed it on a film, and made a model, which has deceived Touch ID.
Shares of Apple Keep Rising
The Analytic Team of XE Markets (the company is included in the list of recommended Forex brokers made by Mastrerforex-V Academy) informs that despite the gap in smartphone security, quotations of Apple Inc. securities have risen by 2.4%.
Billionaire and investor Carl Icahn, who owns shares of Apple that make up the sum of 1 bln. US dollars, has informed about the meeting with the head of the company Tim Cook, in the course of which he has tried to convince the latter to spend 150 bln. US dollars to buy out the shares of the company. T. Cook has promised to return to the issue in three weeks.
Only Some Problems are Eliminated
It has already been informed earlier that representatives of Apple claim to release an OS update iOS 7, which will eliminate the previously found weak point concerning blocking system. It is known that this weak point enabled one to watch photos on iPhone or iPad without having access to the device. In order to buy access to photos, one had to perform several actions in certain sequence (for more details see the article “Apple Managed to Fix Screen Mistake iOS 7”).
What is more, users have revealed another considerable drawback in the new OS iOS 7 – after working with a device, where such OS from Apple is installed, one gets certain not very pleasant symptoms, which remind sea sickness. There has even appeared a special branch devoted to the issue on Apple forum. The first message is dated September 18. It is known that on this day there appeared a legal opportunity to download the new OS iOS 7. First negative feedbacks to such record started appearing the next day. At this point the branch of the forum contains about 150 records. Users write that work with iPad or iPhone leads to painful feelings in the head, nausea, pain in eyes, dizziness, and drowsiness. This is very similar to feelings of a person that is suffering from a so-called sea sickness.
Those having firsthand knowledge of working with the new OS are convinced that this is due to updated graphic and design features of iOS 7. Unlike previous versions of operating systems, this one has thinner print, flat icons, animation while opening or closing folders and applications, and parallax effect (in other words, change of wallpaper position concerning display when inclining the device). Parallax effect may be switched off, but animation is always in action.
