Samsung Electronics is starting to attach its smartphones to the regions, which they have been designed to be sold in. The company has not warned anyone of this. The first signals appeared when the first consignment of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 came to Europe. It has a sticker saying “European model: this product is compatible only with SIM-card of a European mobile operator”
After this British online store Clove has informed that Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from the received consignment will be supplied only to the countries of the European Union. SIM-cards of other operators will fail to be activated on these smartphones. In other words, if European Galaxy Note 3 comes to the USA, it will not work there, as informed by “Hi-tech” Department of the “Market Leader”.
Samsung has not yet provided any concrete explanations. Representative of a Swiss office of Samsung has admitted on his page in Facebook that Galaxy Note 3 with SIM-card of non-European operators may be used; however; no other details have been given.
German office has informed that Galaxy Note 3 would have to be primarily activated in the country, which it has been designed for; afterwards, it may be used in any region.
Alongside Galaxy Note 3, smartphones with a blocking function also include Galaxy Note, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy S2. All smartphones have been released since August 2013.
