Google, a major US tech giant, has recently announced a major decision. It concerns a change in Google’s corporate policy. In particular, the corporation decided to abandon the 20% rule, which allows any employee to work on secondary/personal projects once a week.
Experts say this is a mistake since this rule gave birth to such projects as Gmail and Ad Sense as well as hundreds of other projects that later turned to open-sources projects.
The new corporate policy was born on 2011 when Larry Page came to office and has been developed ever since. The new CEO underlined the importance of spending more resources on smaller amount of projects to increase the productivity and boost the quality of those projects. It should be noted that the 20% rule is Google’s most popular innovative solution. It was copied by many companies.
