Yesterday, hackers attacked Apple’s internal network.
During the attack, the hackers spread malware from one of the websites for developers. As a result, the intruders managed to infect some Apple computers with their virus. Luckily, local security experts managed to isolate those computers from the rest of the network. Therefore, the attack failed as the hackers didn’t manage to steal important data.
In January 2013, a lot of American institutions reported about unauthorized access attempts. Mass media reported that hackers had stolen the information about 250 000 Twitter accounts.
At this point, US mass media suspect that that might be Chinese hackers.
Chinese Army?
According to The New York Times, most cyber attacks came from a single source. The conclusion is based on the research results mad by Mandiant, an American cyber security firm.
The experts report that they have managed to trace “Comment Crew/ Shanghai Group”, an experienced team of Chinese hackers. The source of the attack is said to be located inside the headquarters of Unit 61398 of People's Liberation Army.
The New York Times assumes that most hacker groups in China work for the government.
At this point, China has officially denied any direct or indirect involvement in any cyber attacks on US companies and institutions.
