As of January 2013, the S&P 500 index gained 5.1%. This is the best performance seen over the last 15 months. The weak GDD report for Q4 2012 couldn’t affect the final results.
The major growth in the market of S&P 500 was seen in mid January. There was a slight slowdown in late January. In particular, S&P 500 lost 0.26% during the last trading session of January, thereby dropping down to 1498 points.
Market Leader reports that January was successful not only for American stock indices. MICEX, a Russian stock index, gained several dozens of points from 1475 up to 1547 points in January.
FTSE 100 gained 6.81% while CAC 40 gained 2.69%. Nikkei was up by 7.66%.
