Daimler, a German motor giant), is planning to cut 2100 jobs in its division specializing in trucks.
Mass media report that the company made such a decision because of tougher competition amid lower demand for trucks. 1300 jobs will be cut in the USA. 800 more workers will face unemployment in Germany.
Daimler is facing tough rivalry, created mainly by Volvo after it purchased Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, which used to be a part of Dongfeng Motor Group. This company is an expert in the production of medium and heavy trucks.
After the purchase, Volvo may turn into the leader in the global market of trucks while Dongfeng may consolidate its profitability and competitiveness as well as its image and brand.
