Last century, the global geopolitics was determined by several economic and political centers. First it was Europe. Then it yielded to the USA. After World War II, a bipolar world was established by the confrontation (the so-called “cold war”) between the USSR and the USA. Eventually, the USSR collapsed, simultaneously leaving the USA the only superpower. However, a couple of decades later, China stated turning into another super power with a strong and boosting economy and promising prospects. That is why the USA has been so active in the Asian-Pacific region so far.
USA Tries To Consolidate Its Power. Possible Consequences.
A representative of the Institute of Modern International Relations has recently published an article in The Global Times, a daily Chinese tabloid. The author assumes that Washington’s efforts to take the situation in the Asian-Pacific region under control may lead to another cold war (this time, between China and the USA). The efforts escalate certain risks and may lead to undesirable consequences.
In particular, the author of the article hints that the USA is currently forming a united anti-Chinese coalition in the region. Japan has traditionally been the center of this coalition. This is revealed by the fact that the USA always backs Japan’s military intensions and urges it to boost its military power. South Korea is another major political and military ally of the USA in the Asian-Pacific region.
Apart from Japan, US officials have turned their eyes on Vietnam , an emerging Asian economy. They also start building relations with Laos and Myanmar. At the same time, the USA consolidates its military presence in the region (the Philippines, Singapore).
China
All the mentioned above confirms the idea that the Asian-Pacific region has turned into the global geopolitical center, which definitely escalates the existing tensions as well as the consequences of possible events. Still, it opens new opportunities for China. At this point, China has turned into the only global superpower that can hinder Washington’s ambitious plans aimed at world supremacy.
At this point, China still benefits from the fact that most countries of the region prefer to stay neutral, looking for opportunities to benefit from the situation. Therefore, China still has enough chances to consolidate its position in the region, which will contribute its national economy.
