There is probably not a single nation that hasn’t expressed its opinion on “Innocence of Muslims”, the infamous movie insulting Prophet Muhammad. While US officials keep denying its involvement in the production of the movie, Israelis condemn the movie. European media (Der Spiegel in particular) assume that Israel might be involved in the scandal. In this aspect, a natural question arises: Cui prodest?
Eugene Olkhovsky, ’s leading expert, ask questions as well:
· Who was interested in disturbing the Arab world?
· Could Terry Jones, the priest who publicly burned a copy of the Koran, translate the movie trailer into the Arab language and to publish it on YouTube?
· Could he broadcast the trailer on Arab TV channels?
· Why there is no full version of the movie?
· Is there a full version?
· Why does nobody know the director and the crew?
· How did the killers of the US ambassador manage to find the CIA secret address in Benghazi?
· How did they manage to escape when the country is full of US troops and secret services?
Terry Jones confirms that he only helped to promote and distribute the movie trailer without being directly involved in the production process. They say the movie was on air in some US theaters but nobody came to see it. How can it be?
Obviously, the provocation could have succeeded only if the trailer had caused nationwide rage and protests across the Arab world. That is why the trailer was broadcasted in the Arab language so that the native speakers could understand it. Should the trailer have been aimed at the Western audience only, it would be a complete fiasco now.
In essence, the movie (or the trailer, to be exact) is a poorly-made comedy aimed at insulting Prophet Muhammad and turning him into a despicable and miserable person.
When watching the trailer, viewers may feel like they are being humiliated themselves because the movie trailer looks like it is made for some “retards” who can be easily manipulated.
Reaction
Who can be interested in rage and protests in response to the humiliating movie? Some experts say that Obama’s administration may well be interested in distracting the electorate from the real problems inside the country in the run-up to November’s presidential election. They say it is convenient to find an external enemy. Common Americans will be afraid of another 9/11 and will forget about such “trivial” things as the standards of living, unemployment, inflation and debt.
More experts say that the movie is an act of provocation stirring social, racial, national and religious strife.
Jacob Augstein from Der Spiegel say that the US Republicans and Israel might be interested in protests and violence. However, a certain group of experts from Germany, Israel, Russia and Ukraine do not agree with this statement.
