Western media have already called the rage and protests across the Arab world as the “Arab Autumn”. Strange as it may seem, the latest assaults on US embassies have taken place in those countries where “dictatorial regimes” fell nearly a year ago. Nearly all those Middle-Eastern countries are major oil exporters. Therefore, any force-majeure or instability in the region results in higher oil prices.
Who benefits from the confrontation with the Islamic world? How does crude oil react to the protests in Libya, Egypt, Tunis, Yemen and other countries?
Brief Overview
According to Eugene Olkhovsky, ’s leading expert from Canada, the current state of affairs in the Middle East has shocked all those who truly believe in the USA’s sacred mission as a propagator of freedom and democracy (indeed, there are such people).
However, americanophobes have got an opportunity to mock at the USA (they say, “you asked for it, you got it”). However, if to take a closer look at the situation, there are more questions than answers.
Probably, there is no need to write about riots and assaults on US embassies on September 11th-14th. You can find all the details on other websites if you want.
To make the long story short, around 2000 people gathered in Cairo, Egypt on September 11th to protest against “Innocence of Muslims”, an American anti-Muslim movie insulting Prophet Mohammed.
On September 12th, armed protestors surrounded a US embassy in Libya and set in on fire.
On September 14th, there were protests near Western embassies in 13 Muslim countries.
More experts say that the move was a provocation.
10 Whys… or what is so surprising about the provocation?
1. In September 2010, Christian extremists burned several copies of Koran across the USA. Why didn’t Muslims arrange mass protest then?
2. In August 2012, the German Supreme Court allowed the local right-wing activists to picket mosques with banners insulting Prophet Mohammed. Why didn’t Muslims respond to it?
3. Why do we keep getting controversial information about the creators of the scandalous movie? Initially, it was reported that the movie was directed by Sam Basil, an Israeli-born American director. Later on, an unknown Egyptian Christian living in the USA confessed that it was him who filmed the movie.
4. Why do we know little about the movie? There is only a short trailer on Youtube.
5. The trailer was downloaded to Youtube in July but it was translated into the Arabic language right in advance of September 11th. Why?
6. Why did the protests start exactly on September 11th?
7. Why did the protests take place in those countries where few people have access to the Internet?
8. A couple of days before the protests in Cairo, the metal barrages around the US embassy were dismantled. Why? A strange coincidence? Hardly probable…
9. The assault on the US embassy in Libya took place exactly on the day when a delegation of US businessmen was about to leave the country. Why?
10. And finally, why is the US authorities’ reaction so modest? No warlike rhetoric so far…
Arab Autumn And US Presidential Election
Assaults on embassies are a common thing in foreign policy. Being a diplomat is risky sometimes. Only 4 US ambassadors have been killed since the US established relations with other countries. The latest incident took place in 1979 in Afghanistan.
The reaction will be rather modest. Barack Obama has his hands tied as he doesn’t want to damage his image in advance of the forthcoming presidential election. For Mitt Romney, this is another perfect opportunity to criticize Obama’s administration.
