On June 1st 2011 at 07.15GMT the Federal Statistical Office published its Retail Sales report for March.
March’s forecast 1.9 %, February’s value - 0.2 %
“Retail Sales” is the main measure of a nation’s consumer spending. Consumer demand is the main driver of any economy. Growing consumer demand requires more products in the domestic market, which in its turn stimulates the production of these products. In order to expand the production more labor power is needed, which also has a positive impact on the country’s labor market. The value of the indicator is hard to anticipate. However, it is a good indicator for currency traders showing the future national currency rate (in this case it is the Swiss Franc).
During the reversal stage of economic cycles the indicator reveals especially valuable information. Even a small change like +0.4% is always a good sign for those who trade the Swiss Franc. A 7.5% increase is a very strong sign of the forthcoming rally of the Swiss currency.
