Monday, the 30th of January, brings plenty of news releases, so let's see which ones stand out. This is the Economic Calendar.
Chinese markets will be closed for most of the week as Spring Festival is observed, but the rest of the world remains busy.
Swiss KOF Economic Barometer for January is up first at 8. The Index stood unchanged in December as growth in manufacturing was reversed by a decline in construction.
The highly anticipated German Preliminary CPI for January follows at 1 PM GMT. The December data surprised on the upside as the inflation soared to a 3-year high on the back of higher oil prices.
US Personal Income and Spending for December comes at half past 1. Income saw no change in November, but spending has been growing for the past 3 months.
US Pending Home Sales for December are out at 3. November data came in much weaker than expected as sales dropped to their lowest level in 10 months.
Two news releases regarding the Japanese economy in December follow at 11:30 in the evening, and Household Spending is one of them. Spending has been declining for 9 months straight, and this trend is expected to continue.
Unemployment Rate did inch somewhat higher in November, but it does remain at a remarkably low level.
Japanese Preliminary Industrial Production for December will be available at 11:50. Output returned to growth in November, having stood unchanged a month ago.
UK GfK Consumer Confidence for January comes at one minute past midnight. The Index gained one point in December but it has stood below zero for the past 10 months.
Australian Private Sector Credit for December is released at half past midnight. The loan portfolio has been growing at a steady point 5% pace for 2 months straight.
National Australia Bank Business Confidence for December is out at the same time. The Index rebounded in November from the 4-month low reached the previous month.
And Japanese Housing Starts for December conclude the schedule at 5. The number of housing starts continued to grow in November, but the rate was the smallest in 3 months.
