The EU membership of Great Britain is gradually turning into a major geopolitical issue outside the UK’s external policy. Berlin, Paris and Washington are seriously concerned about the UK’s intension to abandon the European integration process.
According to recent surveys, only 30% of British citizens want the UK to stay in the European Union. According to Harris Interactive, if the referendum were conducted today, 50% would vote for leaving the EU, with only 33% against.
This is not the first time we see the British authorities raising the EU membership question. The Prime Minister of Great Britain promised to conduct a referendum to let the British decide on the fate of the country’s presence in the EU.
