The car sales volume in the EU declined by 2.8% (y/y) in June. In absolute figures, that was a 1.2 million decline. This is the lowest sales volume in 8 months. Several car manufacturers report about losses. During the first quarter of 2012, the sales declined by 6.8%.
Last month, the results varied depending on the country. For example, in Germany, the sales increased by 3% up to 296k cars while the UK sales increased by 3.5% up to 190K cars. There was another story in France: the sales dropped by 0.6% down to 206k cars. Car manufacturers also saw a major sales decline in Greece and Italy, obviously due to the crisis situation in those countries.
Now let’s look at car manufacturers. According to , the car sales for major car manufacturers look as follows: Volkswagen (+2,8%), Toyota (+19%), Nissan (+8,8 %). Hyundai and Kia showed positive dynamics as well. Other auto brands have difficulty selling their cars. In particular, General Motors, Ford, Renault, BMW and Mercedes saw a major sales decline (up to 10%).
