The US consumer confidence index increased up to 73.6 (m/m) in August. The data published by the University of Michigan were expected to be around 72.2.
For reference, the average figures seen during the 2008 crisis were around 64.
After a 2-month decline, the indicator shows that US consumers become more confident due to an improvement in the US labor market. Nevertheless, US consumers assume that the rate of inflation will be growing over the next 6 months.
