Devaluation Of Euro – The Only Way Out Of The Crisis
26 July 07:35 AM
According to Martin Feldstein, Professor of Economics at Harvard University, the only way out of the eurozone crisis is the devaluation of the common European currency. He says that while EU leaders are desperately trying to defend the Euro, their efforts are inefficient and vain. However, the currency market seems to have found an efficient solution.
The current devaluation of the Euro is the key to survival for the eurozone. A weaker Euro will help European exporters to restore the competitiveness of their products and services, thus stimulating the eurozone economy and helping such countries as Greece, Portugal , Spain and Italy to come out of the crisis. Germany is also expected to boost its export and raise salaries in case the Euro depreciates further.
The expert assumes that the devaluation should be implemented through the ECB’s more liberal monetary policy rather than “dramatic steps”. He says that the Euro has already lost 15% of its value against the US Dollar this year. If it loses 15% more, EURUSD will reach parity.
